Dear Friend,

Thank you for visiting Old Line Conservative.

As you know political websites differ in their content. The disciplines which interest us are those which comprise ethical journalism and classical college curricula.

These are the most significant issues on which we take aim:

  • Socialism is strengthening its grip on America. The authoritarian spirit of Marxist Socialism is no longer looked upon as dangerous or un-American. It is no exaggeration to warn that our liberties are being threatened by Socialism, the enemy within. Historian Alexis de Tocqueville made this observation, “Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
  • Conservatives have been marginalized even in the Republican Party. The takeover of the Republican Party by neoconservatives wrapped in the flag is just about complete. We have been led to believe that America has a messianic calling to police the world, and that if we fulfill this calling, a utopia awaits us. Will such a policy have deleterious effects? In the prophetic words of founding father James Madison, “If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.” In all affairs, domestic and foreign, the United States must retain its economic independence from foreign influence if it desires to remain politically independent.
  • Nihilism is the philosophy du jour. Nihilists opine that all belief systems are baseless and devoid of meaning, and that if there is meaning anywhere we cannot know this with any degree of certitude. If that was the case then every belief system would be as true as every other. This means that in most instances the loudest or the most frequently heard voice will be considered the pronouncement of truth. Not long ago the nihilists of Nazi Germany were heard above everyone else, and for countless people, Nazi lies became the truth. Nihilism creates an intellectual and spiritual vacuum. As Benjamin Franklin cautioned, “Here comes the orator! With his flood of words and his drop of reason.”
  • The above mentioned topics bear directly on politics, history, economics, and religion. Naturally these topics will be our province of discussion.

I believe that you will find Old Line Conservative to be both informative and inspirational. Our focus will be on the tried and true. Abraham Lincoln explained, "What is conservatism? Is it not adherence to the old and tried, against the new and untried?"
